History
Latina Pharma SpA is a fully integrated manufacturer of active (“API”) and formulated (“FDF”) pharmaceutical products, including ß-lactams, oncology, both sterile and oral, and lyophilized formulations.
We operate in a large-scale multipurpose facility located in Sermoneta, in the Province of Latina, south of Rome, with a factory spread over an area of over 500,000 m2, part of which has not yet been built and remains available in sight of future expansion.
The plant was commissioned and built by Bristol Myers Squibb (“BMS”) in 1969, and was immediately dedicated to the production of antibiotics by moving it from the Verona site. The company, which consolidated both production and plants and, in terms of internal and external employees, reached 2000 workers, soon became an excellence in Pontine chemical-pharmaceutical production.
The history of our plant is full of challenges and goals achieved, which have contributed to making it a competitive and strategic site. Already in 1971 the production of API penicillins was undertaken and, in 1975, that of API Ceph and DP Pen. Subsequently, in 1983, the production of DP oncology drugs began, in 1994 DP cephalosporins, in 1997 the API Non-Beta Lactam plant and in 2004 the production of API oral penicillins.
The fully integrated wastewater treatment dates back to 2005.
In 2010 the site and assets were acquired by Corden Pharma SpA, of the German ICIG Group (International Chemical Investors Group).
A new scenario has opened up, new challenges and a new phase characterized by specialization in the field of synthetic medicines for oral and injectable use, mainly β-lactam antibiotics, with both chemical and pharmaceutical processes.
Another strongly desired objective was the creation, within the plant, of an Integrated Environment, Health and Safety Management System, within which the environmental part was certified according to the UNI EN ISO 14001 standard. Great attention was also placed in reference to the aspects of Industrial Hygiene that directly influence the healthiness of the working environment and the tasks of employees.
From this perspective, in 2001, the plant was certified BS OHSAS 18001 with annual inspections. The site also obtained the Integrated Environmental Authorization in October 2007.
On May 24, 2023, the chemical pharmaceutical plant was purchased by Kavis Pharma Holding, a company of the Extrovis Group.
Starting from January 1, 2024, the name of the company changed to Latina Pharma S.p.A., a new name but the same passion and motivation, always supporting the customer and close to patients in every part of the world.
The Site
Latina Pharma is a state-of-the-art Chemo-Pharmaceutical site, which includes all the necessary infrastructure, specialized and sophisticated technologies, expert teams and global standards of environmental and industrial hygiene, excellences that have contributed to creating a solid global reputation in the sector.
The plant, located not far from Rome, in the Municipality of Sermoneta, in the Province of Latina, is periodically checked by all the competent authorities regarding pharmaceutical compliance and approval. It covers an area of over 500,000 m2, part of which has not yet been built and remains available for future expansion.
Latina Pharma’s multipurpose structure, organized by product category, API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) and DP (Drugs Products), with an autonomous waste recycling plant, the “Ecological Platform”, for the recovery of solvents and other waste treatments and with an excellent track record in customer service and compliance, has a global reach of approximately 65 markets.
